Monday, June 9;
From Eureka, CA we stayed on Highway 101 the cut away from the coast on Highway 199, picking up highway 140 in Grants Pass, Oregon (the 16th state we have visited). Highway 199 was a spectacular motorcycling road with a smooth very clean surface and well banked curves, lots of curves.
As soon as we passed into Oregon the scenery seemed to change. In Northern California we were riding through forested areas almost all the time. Once we hit Oregon there were more farms and pastures, but they all needed irrigation.
We stayed in Lakeview, Oregon, but could not find a lake to view.
Tuesday, June 10;
Very cold this morning, TV said 38 degrees.
We took highway 195 north out of Lakeview to US 20 (Yes, the same US 20 that runs through Leroy and Canandaigua. It goes all the way across the country. Someday we should take it from one end to the other.)
Eastern Oregon was very interesting. It is high desert with very little vegetation. There are rolling hills and a few mountain cliff like outcroppings to make things interesting, but in places the road was as straight as an arrow for maybe 30 miles. Almost no traffic, we saw 6 other vehicles in 150 miles.
We rode about 150 miles before stopping for breakfast. It was still in the 50's. We all had heated jacket liners or vest and were quite comfortable. It was a lot better than riding in the104 degree heat in Texas.
Staying in Mountain Home, Idaho (17 th state).
